BP Third attempt to cease the Oil Spill crisis: To work or not to work?

By Briana Booker

As the flow of oil increases and the bad consequences grow, I am hoping this third try to resolve the issue works successfully. However, the tactic appears very complicated to say the least.

Basically, robots are going to saw off the riser to disconnect it from the Blowout preventer which the oil is gushing at the top. The drill ship will then place a rubber seal on top of the Blowout preventer.

The most favorable result is for the oil to flow up through the pipe and be stored in the drill ship. The drill ship will transform the oil contained to gas form to be burned off.

The problem is that the sawing of the two entities must be a clean swipe or the rubber seal might not succeed at its task. Once the sawing happens visibility for engineers to guide the robots through sawing will become very low.

In the short term, if this plan does not work well, it can make this problem more devastating.

We are at a stage where the fishing grounds are not safe to use. A third of the Gulf of Mexico is filled with oil. This percentage will increase if this matter does not get under control.

At the moment, BP stock shares are plummeting rapidly. If the rubber cap does not work, the next option will be placing a second Blowout preventer on top of the damaged one. This should halt the oil and gas from the well.

Either way, this third attempt will take a week to show results of failure or success.
