When keeping real goes bad: Helen Thomas resigning

By Briana Booker

I know last week i made fun of Helen Thomas, a well known Presidential press corps member, making smart remarks to President Obama, but I really will miss her being a press corps member. Recently, she had to resign from her position for making controversial remarks in an interview with Rabbi David Nesenoff  about the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis. She always has spoken her mind and that is why I love her character. I really respect and admire Thomas' fearless candor.

She is definitely the needle in the hay stack.

To be honest, Thomas has a good point to make in her short remarks about the whole matter.

That land is no one's land. It is mother earth's land. I find it hysterical when people try to make the world have a price tag or a possessive label. None of us own the land. We can not take anything we possess here to our graves. The violence that has been held in the Middle East is not sensible, as elsewhere in the world.

No race is superior than any other race. We all are faulty. We all breathe the same air.  I learned this today when someone of Asian descent blamed her being sick to me sneezing. It is called allergies.

For those of you not familiar with the word 'allergy', it is an abnormal reaction of the body to an encounter of an allergen. This abnormal encounter comes from inhalation, ingestion, injection, or skin contact with the allergen. It results in itchy eyes, a runny nose, wheezing, sneezing and skin rash.

This is exactly why people should practice learning knowledge about things, rather than be ignorant. Life is a big learning experience.

Although I have some Asian descent too, the person is quick to judge and isolate. It reminds me of the tension between Jewish and Palestinian people. Both people come from predominately the same lineage and have historically suffered common disadvantages but they constantly try to belittle one another, rather than show love.

It does not make sense to me.

Once again, no  race is perfect. I am not perfect. But take responsibility for your own actions and words. People might belittle Thomas for speaking her mind, but at least she does not hide behind closed doors to speak her mind. Often, we as people hide behind our doors to voice our truths. Maybe more Thomas' should exist.

I am a woman of many heritages. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but I will be damn if  I let opinions hurt me. Thomas words were opinions. Nothing more or less.

Please review the video below and let me know what you think.
