The end is near: Metro rail and bus fares increase!
By Briana Booker
Another sign of dooms day is on the move! The Metro fare increase is in effect! People riding the rail system will now see a off-peak base fare of $1.60 rather than $1.45. As for rush hour commuters, the base fare is at $1.95, as opposed to $1.75! Two dollars just to ride one way and more if you travel long distance!
And if you are thinking " I will just take the bus," ...think again! Bus fares went from$1.25 to $1.50 for the SmarTrip card users and $1.35 to $1.70 for cash customers!
In an economy hurting for money, I can not imagine what will become of the Metro system and its customers, only time will tell! Save your pennies and dimes!

I don't know about you but since moving to DC in 1990 I have used Metro faithfully. But soon I want to cheat with my own private car. Metro service is either bad or it has deteriorated. How many times buses are either late or never show up, train derailments, unfriendly drivers who get upset if you don't know how to operate a SmarTrip card or refuse to open bus doors while on a break while the temperature outside is 100 degrees, and on and on.
ReplyDeleteHi! I have only been living here in DC for a little more than 2 years. I really loved it when i first moved here. I thought it was cleaner and more organized than the system in my hometown.
ReplyDeleteMany are thinking to commute by private transportation! You are not alone. However, I find the road design and traffic so confusing here!
I have dealt with the same troubles with the metro system!
People shouldn't be in customer/public service careers if they do not know how to respect and be kind to the people helping them obtain a paycheck.
Well, there will either be a strike, rates will go higher or the quality of service will have to step up a notch! No one is going to pay high fees when it is already hard enough to survive in this economy.
The Metro system should be as loyal as its customers!
